San Pedro de Alcántara is a small village on the western side of Marbella just after Puerto Banus. San Pedro de Alcántara was founded in 1860 by the Marques del Duero as the then largest agricultural project in Spain, covering an area of 10.000 Hectares. It was a great project with machinery being imported from the United Kingdom and workers being recruited from all over Spain.
Today San Pedro de Alcántara is a popular choice for people looking to settle in Spain. San Pedro de Alcántara still has a dedicated shopping street and several “plazas” with traditional Spanish bars and cafes. In San Pedro de Alcántara the Spanish charm and traditions have remained and the people are overwhelmingly hospitable to their new foreign residents.
There is a great beach promenade in San Pedro de Alcántara which every Sunday sees the invasion of both Spanish and foreign families strolling along the seafront before settling down to enjoy a typical Spanish Sunday lunch in one of the many seafood restaurants.
San Pedro de Alcántara truly is an ideal place for families. Everything is within walking distance, the restaurants are economical and traditional and there still remains a village spirit otherwise lost in many growing towns along the coast.
